Your pro forma financial statement is one of your most important
financial forecasting and planning tools. Smart business managers use this valuable
and necessary tool to establish financial goals and track results. Most importantly,
it helps you determine your future cash flows and profits.
The pro forma also helps you and
others understand the current and future value of your business as projected over the next
three, five, or ten years. Projections are based on expected sales revenues, cost of
goods, labor. expenses, capital expenditures, depreciation, taxes, and cash flows.
Pro forma financials are provided
with every business plan prepared for our clients. In addition, financial notes and
explanations accompany the pro forma in order to clarify the basis for revenues, expenses,
etc.
Other items such as property,
plant and equipment schedules, maintenance, and labor schedules are also included in the
pro forma to help further explain projections.
The pro forma includes a
statement of cash flows for each accounting period. Understanding cash flow is of
vital importance in the process of future business planning, in order to help with capital
budgeting, and profitability analysis.
Net profits is only one of many
ways to measure profits. Pro formas prepared by MIRA Consulting includes ten
profitability measures including an estimated valuation of the business based on net
present value of future cash flows. If we are talking about a startup business, we
also provide you with the estimated payback period to recover your initial investment.
